Smiles Or Tears (Studio cover)

Smiles Or Tears (Behind the music)

A father has a sobering responsibility, because he can produce in his children smiles or tears. As the songs says, “I KNOW THAT SOMEDAY YOU WILL LOOK BACK ON ME AN SAY,  SMILES OR TEARS” The verses address the gradual change that a child makes as they grow and a fathers preoccupation and concern that  the smiles are remembered  and there are no tears or they are forgotten never to mar the life of the child. Colossians 3:21 talks of how serious raising a child can be, it says, “You fathers, do not be exasperating your children, so that they do not become downhearted.” A father can affect a child’s emotional state warping him/her or balancing him/her  into a happy person for the rest of his life. These are the inspirations behind the song. Those feelings were mine as I watched my daughter grow and later my son. It is a serious thing to be in charge of molding the life of another person and I felt that deeply.

SMILES OR TEARS

LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT

AND SOMETIMES I JUST DON T KNOW WHAT I VE GOT

BUT EVERY TIME YOU SMILE

I JUST LOOSE MY THOUGHTS

I WATCH  YOU LIVING IN YOUR TENDER YEARS

AND TO KNOW THAT I AM FORMING

WHAT WILL BE YOUR SMILES OR TEARS

YOUR SMILES OR TEARS

I KNOW THT SOMEDAY YOU WILL LOOK BACK ON ME AND SAY

SMILES OR TEARS

I WATCH YOU THINKING

BUT YET I CAN T READ YOUR THOUGHTS

AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY DAY

THEY’ RE GETTING FARTHER AND FARTHER AWAY

ONCE I THOUGHT I HAD YOU WITHIN MY GRASP

BUT WHEN I TURNED TO HOLD YOU TOO MUCH TIME HAD LAPSED

WILL YOU HAVE SMILES OR TEARS

CHORUS:

I SENSE YOUR FEELINGS BUT SOMEHOW, I CAN T GET INSIDE

I KNOW YOU NEED ME AND YOU VE LEARNED TO LOVE

BUT WILL YOU STILL BE LOVING

WHEN YOU’VE FALLEN IN LOVE

WILL YOU HAVE SMILES OR TEARS

CHORUS
