The River’s End (Behind the song)
A River can symbolize many things. Because of its turns and twists, instability. Because of its persistent drive to its final outlet , dogged determination. Or the freedom the river seems to generate in its long run and many turns. The song , ‘The River’s End’ the idea of such freedom is implicated in living and not being restricted in any way. However one cannot always remain without restriction if they are to relate with other human beings and especially with one who becomes a partner in life. Restrictions then, involve taking into consideration that companions feelings and viewpoint. Then “the river’s end” is traveled by less freedom although the two now still have freedom as its objective. But the benefits of loosening the grip on absolute freedom can be as the song implicates, a more meaningful and comforting life when shared. It is as Ecclesiastes 4:11,12, “Moreover, if two lie down together, they will stay warm, but how can just one keep warm? And someone may overpower one alone, but two together can take a stand against him. And a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn apart.” Now rather than being a loner there is benefit when joining with someone else in many ways. It is interesting that in the Bible two were required to be witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15) to a wrong act by a third person. If they were unified then the action was confirmed. If the two riding the river were honest and truthful that would provide conformation. What if there was only one witnesses as in the case of sexual abuse of a child. The Authorities, who in all cases must to be notified, then with their professionals in this particular area, a confirmation can be made or refuted (at times bitter former spouses have been found making false accusations discovered by the professional examiners), thus two witnesses would have been presented, one being very qualified. All the above summarize the thinking involved in the song, “The river’s end”
LYRICS
THE RIVERS END
I’S ALWAYS PACKED UP MY HEART MY WOULD AND MY DREAMS
HEADD DOWN THAT LONG LONEOME RAILROAD TRACK
I NEVER KNEW WHAT WA ASHEAD TO SEE
ONLY LOOSEING BEHIND THE HOLDS ON ME
SOMETIMES IT CAN MAKE A GROWN MAN CRY
MAKE HIM WANT TO FIND A HOME
MAKE HIM STOP RUNNING TO THE RIVER
AND WANT TO MAKE THIS CORNER HIS HOME
CHORUS: BUT WHEN ANYBODY AS ME WHERE I’D GONE
I’D TELL THEM I’M RIDDING THE RIVER TO THE RIVERS END
WELL I ALWAYS THOUGHT A DREAM COULD NEVER COME TRUE
SO MANY TIMES MY HEART WAS RUNNING SCRED
LIKE A SAIL ON THE WATER WAITS FOR THE WIND
YOU CAME ALONG AND MADE MY LIFE BEGIN
SOETIMES YOU CAN SOOTH MY SOUL
AND I DON T WANT TO EVER GO
I WANT TO STOP RUNNING TO THE RIVER
AND MAKE THIS CORNER MY HOME
CHORUS: NOW EHEN ANYBODY ASK ME WHER I’VE GONE
I TELL THEM I’VE RIDDEN THE RIVER TO THE RIVERS END
INSTRUMENTAL AND FINISH FROME “SOMETIMES YOU CAN SOOTH MY—
TO END WITH “I TELL THEM I’M RIDDING THE RIVER TO THE RIVERS
END TWIDE OR MORE WITH OCTIVE VARIATION AND FADE
