GO TO SLEEP LITTLE DARYLL (Behind the song)
The innocence of a child holds on to his father and believes he is safe even though the darkness made him cry just minutes before. But now he is safe. He now can close his eyes with no worries, nothing can touch him now. As I sat there observing my son approaching this trusting tranquility the words of the song somehow gave me comfort as well. Afterward quietly I stood with Guitar in hand and exited the room leaving a sound sleeper. I couldn’t help think of the words found in Luke18:15-17 “Jesus called the infants to him, saying: “Let the young children come to me, and do not try to stop them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such ones. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a young child will by no means enter into it.”. This lovely innocence I was just immersed in was what I needed as well, something the world around one takes away ever so crudely. Also the words at Col.3:21 “You fathers, do not be exasperating your children, so that they do not become downhearted” weighted on my mind because not only did I need to acquire a certain innocence lost but also a heavy responsibility of a balanced way of treatment of my son. As another expression says in Eph 6:4, says do not be irritating. Irritation and exasperation is caused by being inconsistent, belittling, condemning and lack of love and commendation. I would need to structure my treatments with kindness and love to be able to produce a well balanced young man. These are the feelings that surrounded the writing and performing of the song , “Go to sleep little Daryll”
