OH MANKIND (Behind the song)
In 1977 from the eleventh floor balcony in San Juan Puerto Rico I could see the ever moving headlights on the expressway below . Who did all these moving lights belong to, who would they all eventually become, what had molded them to become that which they had become as they relentlessly moved on to their diverse destinations. Where would these nameless ones be a year from now and would a new birth replace their population loss as a new living number. These were the thoughts and motivations and settings behind the song “OH MANKIND” The wise words at 1 Corinthians 7:29,31 came to mind, “…the time left is reduced…….for the scene of this world is changing.” This changing world sadly can mold us by the bloodshed, ambition, unbalanced freedom, restraint and progress. We can become withdrawn , puting our feelings in a box to be untouched. Yet the admonishment of these words can help resist the mold and stay focused, “Have intense love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins”.—1 Pet. 4:8. and “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails–1 Corinthians 13:4-8. So we can succed in not being molded by the negativity that surrounds us, if we love.
