Another Train

 Everyone is conditioned to follow the track in which they have been set upon from infancy to the grave. Many never question the course that has been carefully constructed and infused into the minds and hearts of those so destined. It may be a religious, nationalistic or any other that forms the track we travel on due to our birthplace and enviorment that molds us.   It is like they say is done when training a baby elephant by attaching it to a small post, and even though it has gained strength and size when it tugs at the post it accepts that is is still bound. Are we still bound by conditioning that we have not questioned or confirmed. Not all conditioning is bad and much is necessary as a child is conditioned to look both ways before crossing the street, but it needs to be validated as worthy of acceptance and truthful and following some semblance of logic. If one is burdened by questioning or refuses and blocks all thinking that doesn t confirm to their personal desires   then it may be that ones evidence for the track one moves down may be lacking, for a confirmed track or course is not easily dislodged. Does the track or course we are on set us free from superstitions, beliefs that we fear to question, and unconfirmed concepts? The wise text counsels, ” And stop being molded by this system of things, but be transformed by making your mind over, so that you may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ” Romans 12:2. So even in religious matters , emotion or tradition should not be the driving force but rather verification without fear of change, because really isn’t the truth the important thing! Proverbs 14:15 then states, “The naive person believes every word, But the shrewd one ponders each step. ” When one can only attack another’s belief or opinion disrespectfully it indicates a fear to hear something that may dislodge  ones view. That kind of narrowmindedness and inflexibility is harmful to ones mental, emotional  and physical makeup and in time creates an imbalance that cries for help.

Trains take one far away from the place  called home the same as concepts and beliefs can take one far away from peace, contentment and the truth that one should call home. How is that ? We are all conditioned from our birth and personal environment to believe specific concepts and therefore we tend to never question our conditioning that has inclined us to certain way of thinking and acting. But is there another train that takes us in a direction of freedom from the chains of superstition , false concepts, and fears that keep us unbalanced, locked in a one way tract. For instance if you were born in China your molding would be different, as well as India, Iran, Arabia, Africa, also a  member of a  jungle tribe or in Amish community or many more beginnings. It is easy to see how the conditioning in each place would be entirely distinct with each feeling they are  all moving down the correct tract. This conditioning has divided humanity since the beginning until the extreme situation we now face. Rather than form a dialog to hear and analyze each concept and belief logically to see how true it is we construct walls and fight to defend ourselves and our unique conditioning. This defense mode leaves us to shut out anything else with fear that we may be betraying everything we were convinced to be of value along those that share these same concepts. Sadly this in turn stifles any search for truth, for  such a search has to be unhindered by preconceptions, conjectures and suppositions. It is almost like jumping to another train. But how does one not jump to just another of the many preconditioned trains that can take us down just another incorrect destination   filled with other chains of superstition, false concepts and fears. An open-minded, common sense approach and the humble ability to focus only on what can be confirmed as truthful. Then as we establish truth we begin constructing a new track and train that becomes a straight edge that can measure future concepts so as to determine their validity to be rejected or accepted as truth. But we do that with respect for  the beliefs of others and the  person who we are dealing with . As the song says, “your words mean so much to me”. We can strongly feel that a concept is totally incorrect but still  find their words valuable in that we respect them as a person and the right to their view. So we don’t belittle or become harshly critical of something that we have established as  error. Colossians 3:12 says, “ ……clothe yourselves with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, humility, mildness, and patience.” This tempers how we should approach one another. One then could examine the train or way of life offered at John 14:6, “Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  If this is the train to take, the actual WAY and the TRUTH we must take the time to test it out to be able to use it as a straight edge because we don’t want to accept something on blind faith.  “Prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God–.Romans 12:2 . Finding truth is an intellectual pursuit, testing and proving a matter,  not just an emotional one. These are the thoughts that motivated the song ‘Another Train’.
