Disillusion (Behind the song)
To hear negative news never is good at any time, but when it comes as the last straw on a pile up of bad news then it’s the worst of times. That is not when we want to face a disillusion. But sometimes illusions are just that , hopes that have no basis, something that we want but in reality has always been impossible for us to obtain. It is as the song laments, “you were playing down every no and why, heading out hard you couldn’t open your eyes, waiting out on the edge of the last dream and alibi”. If one is deep into an illusion its hard to see what is real because a false hope drives one to not pay attention to what is reasonable. We have to accept the reality of failure and learn from it. The sooner we do that then we can move on to progress and grow. We are in the massive information world where we get bombarded with false information and even though we ask for help and advice sending out our signals so to speak we just get opinions not the real answers to what we need, just fake news that turns out to be untruths providing no benefit for us. What is the solution, where do we get reliable advice and what must we give up doing? Regarding the knowing when and what to give up that we are doing, for me a bumper sticker I saw once said it all. It said , “I feel much better now that I have given up hope”. At first I wasn’t too impressed by such a negative comment. But after analyzing more carefully there are hopes we must give up on. They are illusions of things we personally don’ have the capacity to make happen yet we doggedly keep pursuing them against all logical reasoning. They cause us to be discouraged and depressed but we are beating a dead horse! While persistence and determination are admirable qualities, they are not in this situation. We need to learn how to fail and when to give up so that we can move on instead of stagnating in self-pity because we haven’t conquered what we never would be able to do anyway, Failure and giving up are beneficial, for they teach us something that we can use as life moves on. Move on so you can keep growing and leave this in the rear view mirror! What about advice you can count on. The wise words at John 17:17 state, “Your word is truth”. Whose word? It is the one who makes this promise and statement, ““I will give you insight and instruct you in the way you should go. I will give you advice with my eye upon you”. Psalm 32:8 Where does this counselor take us? Isaiah 48:18, “If only you would pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river And your righteousness like the waves of the sea”. These are the words and promises of Jehovah the God who inspired the bible and all his accurate and sound advice is contained there. No need to look for those with personal opinions and agendas that don’t provide the reasons why or the truthful way to direct ones step. These are the considerations behind the song ‘Disillusion’.
