This song focuses on a contrast. That between what soldiers face and common citizens. Our world is filled with entertaining gadgets that produce an exaggerated ecstasy or pleasure. On the other side are soldiers whose lives become marked by their tragic experiences in the war and the memories and dreams afterward that have stained their life forever. The song addresses this sad contrast. Will soldiers ever be able to forget the memories and terrible pain acquired by these terrible circumstances. These words can be encouraging to those soldiers, “For look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be called to mind, Nor will they come up into the heart.” Those horrible experiences will be erased , never to torture the thinking again. In the mean time let us show compassion to those who have faced such bitterness.
