Raquel

Raquel (Behind the song)

Raquel  is a real person. She had suffered in a toxic marriage her whole life where she was constantly made fun of and mistreated. These things marked her for life, made her bitter and sad. She also may have had manic/depressive issues and was rarely satisfied with most anything. Yet she had a good heart and was always ready to help those in need. Of course she also bore some fault in the toxic situation she found herself in. Her pain was written on wilted pages that contained her touching  poetry in Spanish. The song  ‘Raquel’ is about her plight and how she was helped although not always recognized by her. There was a major effort to make her final years as pleasant and comfortable as possible. My wife and I were at her side in her final moments of life. “ For now it is heavier than the sands of the seas. That is why my words have been wild talk”, these words of Job during his suffering really described her situation and why she talked and reacted as she did. Raquel was my wife’s mother.
