A father has a sobering responsibility, because he can produce in his children smiles or tears. As the songs says, “I KNOW THAT SOMEDAY YOU WILL LOOK BACK ON ME AN SAY,  SMILES OR TEARS” The verses address the gradual change that a child makes as they grow and a fathers preoccupation and concern that  the smiles are remembered  and there are no tears or they are forgotten never to mar the life of the child. Colossians 3:21 talks of how serious raising a child can be, it says, “You fathers, do not be exasperating your children, so that they do not become downhearted.” A father can affect a child’s emotional state warping him or balancing him  into a happy person for the rest of his life. These are the inspirations behind the song.
