The Dreamer and the End ( Behind the song)
The Dreamer always finds a happy ending because a dream is flexible it can be made to end anyway the originator wants it. But reality is not that way as it comes up with unforeseen things that leave the recipient thrown off balance, shocked at an end not anticipated. I guess we might call that life because that is the way life is ,as it continually hands us what we hadn’t hoped for. In a relationship sometimes one individual is more of a realist than the other as shown in the songs verse, ‘Guess I should have known , should have seen it in your eyes , what’s too often envisioned is too seldom seen’. The negativity of the winter mentioned in the song is an outside force, its effect keeps the outlook blurry so that even time is out focus. The final verse focuses on finding a more balanced way of looking at winning or loosing, the negative or even positive things. Rudyard Kipling said in his poem ‘IF’ that winners and losers should be treated as impostors. In other words we can be thrown off balance by both, so they really are inposters. The key is to maintain your values and balanced stance regardless of what outside forces throw at you. In Philippians 4:12,13 Paul expresses a similar view, he said, “For I have learned to be self-sufficient regardless of my circumstances. I know how to be low on provisions and how to have an abundance. In everything and in all circumstances I have learned the secret of both how to be full and how to hunger, both how to have an abundance and how to do without”. When one is realistic about things they are not thrown down or up emotionally and thus handle the positives and negatives without it changing their goals , values and attitudes. This kind of flexibility saves one much time and heartache, that dreaming with false hopes tend to produce. Although things might not end as a dreamer could wish, they still can be accepted leaving a move on to better things.
