The Innocent (Behind the song)

On December 14, 2012, a  mass shootingoccurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School  in Newtown,  Connecticut    Twenty,  six to seven year old children were killed and 6 Adults by a 20 year old boy in a mans body.  The song , The Innocent, addresses this tragedy. On all sides are the innocent , from the abused to the victims of the one abused. Yet in our quest for absolute freedom we let children  see, hear and do the things their young minds and emotions can’t process or understand. Rulers like Hitler and others often indoctrinated children to kill when their moral compass was not fully established, and yet we believe because we are a free people , we can present any and all things to a child without affecting their development morally. Then when we create a monster because we insist on absolute freedom to see, hear and do ,we wonder why he killed 20 innocent children  and six adults  leaving those surviving  students scarred for life as well as creating fears in all the world of an environment that should be safe. As the song says, ‘Freedoms not freedom if we can’t protect the innocent’. As we keep scarring the young we shall keep scarring ourselves.  Proverbs 6:27,28 asks , “Can a man rake fire to his chest and not burn his garments?  Or can a man walk on hot coals without scorching his feet?  Can such absolute freedom to see , hear and do all things be of benefit to one who is still in a developing stage. The following texts are some things to think about; Proverbs 11:14 , “When there is no skillful direction, the people fall”,  Proverbs 13:20 , “The one walking with the wise will become wise, But the one who has dealings with the stupid will fare badly”, Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; Those who love to use it will eat its fruitage,” Proverbs 25:27, “Like a muddied spring and a ruined well Is a righteous person who gives in to a wicked one.” All these texts emphasize that we are influenced and conditioned by others and the  information we receive, which can be to our determent. “Bad associates spoil useful habits” states 1 Corinthians 15:33. We are not protecting our children in school and being raised in the home if we don’ shield them from bad influences during the time they are very impressionable. How sad that 26 people and families lost so much do to such failure!  Fortunately in the future those murdered will live again as stated ; “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice   and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life,”  This promise alleviates the suffering but in no way erases it at present. Our hearts are with all those suffering from all such shootings. These things were behind the inspiration of the song.
