The Reservoir (Behind the song)
When deterioration sets in, it becomes so much harder to turn things around. The reservoir is about progressive negativity in a relationship. It is hard to turn around such a downwardspiral that completely breaks with no healing anticipated. Sometimes no healing takes place because of pride on the part of one in the relationship. Just as Proverbs 29:1 states , “A man who stiffens his neck after much reproof will suddenly be broken beyond healing.” So there may be refusal to accept ones weaknesses in the relationship. What does the innocent party do in such circumstances? A bumper sticker I saw years ago read, ‘I feel much better now that I have given up hope’. Sometimes if one has failed trying and trying, reality has to be looked straight in the eye and accepted, IT CAN’T BE HEALED! The wise words at Proverbs 13:12 comment, “Expectation postponed makes the heart sick, But a desire realized is a tree of life.” So rather than focus on what now can’t be acquired , what can no longer be hoped for, focus on something within your reach that can be obtained , because accomplishing it will be like a tree of life! Imagine having something as priceless as a tree that can give life , what a wonderful tool to have. And what an effect that would have on a downtrodden soul. Yes , good things will come ,as if it was like a tree of life, since you have stopped beating a dead horse and focused on better things. At one time or another we have all filled the reservoir with our tears in all kinds of circumstances but we don’t have to stay there. These comments are what produced the song, The Reservoir and the afterthoughts.
