The Woman you’ll be (Behind the song)
Years ago I wrote a song to help put my 4 year old daughter to sleep and I would sing it to her every night. The song was in Spanish and was called ‘Sueño’, in English ‘Sleepy’. It said ” you’re so sleepy you can hardly sleep , but with closed eyes you’ll now go to sleep. Can you see the mountain , can you see the river, there is a little kitty playing there’s a puppy too.” But one night when I thought she was fast asleep accidently I inserted a Bunny instead of a puppy. She sat straight up and said, “Papi , Is there a Bunny in there too? Yes I said , lay back down and you’ll see it. She laid back down and closed her eyes, and after a few seconds she ,” Papi , Papi I see it , I see the Bunny”, and she fell asleep. These precious moments imbedded in my mind and heart how serious it was to be a parent and be in charge another human beings life. I was at the threshold of the construction or destruction of a life. It was such a terrifying thing to contemplate . Shortly afterward with such a serious responsibility weighing on my heart the natural thing to do was to write “The Woman you’ll be” as well as the song “Smiles or Tears” which hasn t been released as of yet. The wise words at Proverbs 22:6 haunted me. It says, “Train a boy {or a girl} in the way he should go; Even when he grows old he will not depart from it”. I had seen the absolute truth of these words in some united and loving families but would I be able to duplicate their beautiful results. It was a daunting task that many parents face and realize. I was not a perfect parent by any means and no one is but if we give love, kindness and peace to these tender little ones they will not depart from a good course and being good happy people. In the song one line says ,”time won t erase my mistakes, you may remember well, were time was taking, you will always know, I will always know” For all of us may that knowledge always be happy and pleasant. This is what inspired the song ‘The woman you’ll be’.
