UNDERGROUND (Behind the song)
This song was written in St Petersburg, Florida after doing a small gig for students of our voice instructor. In was in a building that reminded one of an old train station. It reminded me of the time when one feels like leaving after being in a negative situation where ones value was invisible. Where it felt like one was underground all the time with no recognition as having any value. It is the same as faced by this Biblical writer at Zechariah 13:6 , “ And if someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds between your shoulders?’ he will answer, ‘Wounds I received in the house of my friends.’” It was predicted 2000 years ago that disloyalty would be common with these words at Matthew 10:21, “Further, brother will hand brother over to death, and a father his child, and children will rise up against parents and will have them put to death.” These conditions would exist in our time and have nothing to do with ones value as a person. The truth is we all have value, so it is best to get away from negative circumstance that keep you in an underground state. The song Underground is about getting away to more positive pastures where the wind is blowing hard but now far behind you as something you went through, a distant memory. Proverbs 18:24 tells of the new positive environment, “There are companions ready to crush one another, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Negativity is best to get out of ones life so take the train and leave the Underground. These are the musings behind the song ,’ Underground’.
