Winding river (Behind the song)
A winding river has many positive features , its beauty , its relaxing sound, as it pursues its course with the calmness that rushing water produces. But a winding river can also symbolize instability if a person’s conduct is like a winding river, not stable. A self-centered person can be like a winding river when his desires and needs are governed by his fickle emotions. Sometimes he ends up alone running the difficult race of life. To succeed a turn around is necessary as the songs chorus says, “I’ve gotta stop thinking of myself, it’s getting me no place else”. When one has many tattered pages in their life, they need help to get out of the downward spiral that serves as a trap. Galatians 5:22 provides what is needed to stabilize these emotional drivers, it says, “On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Cultivating these qualities will stabilize one and produce happiness in one’s life, making one less like a winding river. These are the thoughts behind the song, “Winding River”.
